Many of you will be already familiar with the kind of book that Prof. Mogilevtsev has created for the first time in this publication. Perhaps you have even had a chance to purchase it, although it doesn't seem to be on the market anymore - unfortunately, although, I'm sure that there are those who would be glad to buy such a book and can be given it as a Christmas present. This book starts with a well-known legend on a famous professor of the Academy. It is followed by a number of interesting particulars on a student, a landscape with students in it and a whole range of different drawings made by different artists.
Among the 85 artists whose drawings are presented in this book you can find a good number of well-known names (well-known names back then, before the introduction of falsification in arts education for the sake of the communist ideology). People like Ilya Repin, Isaak Levitan, Fyodor Bruni, Ivan Argunov, Valentin Serov and Mikhail Vrubel are presented in their early works, although some of them changed not just their styles but their personalities too - although, we’ll save this discussion for future publications.
Although this is a new publication, it is a book that should be in everybody’s library, as it covers a wide range of interesting techniques, principles and styles that are important to know and are useful for further studies and memorization of some important information and theories. At the same time, this publication cannot be compared to the book about academic drawing, where you can find a complete description of all the most important aspects of drawing in one easily accessible book. The book covers a huge area of art, beginning with shadow, perspective, the anatomy, physics of materials, etc. which are important for the study of painting and drawing fundamentals. The majority of students are too busy to read whole books, so it is very important to have a book (like the good old Fundamentals of Drawing) that would stress the most interesting aspects of such a variety of art. d2c66b5586
